Functional Aging Systematic Training
Service Description
Functional Aging Systematic Training (FAST) is a structured approach designed to help older adults maintain and improve their balance, mobility, flexibility, and strength as they age. The goal is to support individuals in leading active, independent, and fulfilling lives by addressing the physical challenges that come with aging. Key Components of Functional Aging Systematic Training: 1. Mobility Enhancement: Focuses on improving joint range of motion, coordination, and gait to ensure ease of movement in daily activities. Exercises may include dynamic stretching, low-impact cardio, and mobility drills. 2. Balance and Stability Training: Helps reduce the risk of falls by strengthening stabilizing muscles and improving proprioception (body awareness). Activities such as single-leg stands, stability ball exercises, and core strengthening are commonly included. 3. Strength Development: Builds muscle endurance and power to support functional tasks such as lifting, carrying, and getting up from a seated position. Resistance training with light weights, resistance bands, and body weight exercises are used to preserve muscle mass. 4. Flexibility and Joint Health: Encourages joint mobility and muscle elasticity to prevent stiffness and discomfort. Incorporates gentle stretching, yoga-inspired movements, and range-of-motion exercises. 5. Endurance and Cardiovascular Fitness: Enhances heart and lung capacity to support sustained activity levels and improve overall stamina. Incorporates low-impact aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, or cycling. 6. Cognitive Engagement: Integrates mind-body exercises to promote brain health and coordination. Activities may include movement patterns that require concentration and memory recall. 7. Functional Movement Patterns: Training focuses on real-life activities such as bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and squatting to ensure ease in daily living. Emphasizes practical exercises like chair rises, step-ups, and functional reach tasks. Benefits of Functional Aging Systematic Training: - Reduces the risk of falls and injuries. - Improves independence in daily activities. - Enhances quality of life by increasing physical confidence. - Supports mental well-being and cognitive function. - Aids in managing chronic conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases.
