Service Description

Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer. 21,000 unknowing Americans fall to its indiscriminate radioactive, lung tissue destroying onslaught. Of those 21,000, 2,900 have never smoked. Radon gas is a nuclear decay product of uranium, found in the soils all over the USA and the rest of the world. Since radon is a gas, it rises through the soil and makes it away up above the ground into the air. Radon in low dosages is relatively harmless. A typical air concentration sits around 0.4 pCi/L. However, due to the structures and mechanical systems that we use within them, Radon can propagate naturally into our living space and achieve toxic levels to our bodies when left unchecked. Radon’s decay products include highly destructive alpha particles during each half-life cycle down its decay chain. These alpha particles are responsible for destroying organ tissue, specifically the lungs. The EPA has 4.0 pCi/L as the actionable level of radon concentration of needing mitigation measures to avoid toxic levels. So… why does radon prefer the depths of our homes? The Stack-Effect is to blame. The Stack-Effect is a thermodynamic phenomenon caused by air pressure differentials created in our house mainly by our HVAC systems. Warm air rises and exerts pressure on its surroundings more so than cold air. So therefore, cold air will accumulate at the lower portions of a house and will not exchange air efficiently with the hot air above it. This creates pressure zones in your home. Radon gas will accumulate in the lower portions of the building to backfill for the air leaving to the upper stories. Since there is poor air circulation and negative air pressure, the radon gas will have affinity for the lower portions of a structure and allow for toxic levels to build up. If the concentration of radon test comes back greater than 4.0 pCi/L, we strongly recommend our mitigation services. Our Mitigation specialist will give you a customized estimate upon retrieving the results of the detection device. Have no fear, Stop Radonic Cancer Now, LLC is ready to fulfill your radon testing and mitigation needs.
